THE PENNSYLVANIA RAILROAD
Great Valley Division
| |
The Great Valley Division of the Pennsylvania Railroad is an imaginary Secondary Line using local place names. It is mainly a freight hauler with many daily passenger trains, local and thru freight trains, a helper job, two work extras, a high and wide transfer and a yard job. The theme of operations is mainly local work with the main line freights dropping off and picking up cars at Paoli. All locals originate at Paoli and disperse to West Chester, Nutts Avenue, Devault, Octoraro, Phoenixville and the Main Line to Parkesburg.
Motive power is Brass steam A5s, B6sb, E6s, G5s, H6sb, H8, H9, H10, I1, K4, L1, and 4 Brass Gas Electrics. All steam engines are equipped with Soundtraxx Steam Decoders and the Gas Electrics with Soundtraxx Diesel decoders.
Passenger equipment is made up of Bachmann Spectrum P70s, Bethlehem Car Works and Walthers B60s, Concor P54s, Walthers P85s and Broadway Limited cars. The cabins are all brass. Freight cars are Accurail, Athearn, Bowser, Broadway Limited, Model Die Casting and Walthers.
The control system is North Coast Engineering DCC with 15 throttles. Radio throttles have been added for road use.
Operation is by card system with multiple destinations for each car on a single card. About 500 cars are shifted during split operating sessions.
Approximately 75 wood kits (Campbell, etc. with a few scratch built) and many of the Walthers Plastic and Woodland Scenics buildings improve the layout.
